I can’t express the amount of gratitude I have for Lorna, Ashleigh and James.
Through attending one on one and group sessions I was able to find the direction I needed to move forward with my life.
They really go the extra mile and provide a fantastic service with a genuine desire to help you.
Six months ago I was a different person.
Through DBT and my 1-2-1 sessions I have noticed a change in myself and started to challenge my thoughts and have come to understand why I’m feeling the way I do. Nicola has been fantastic! Home Counties has helped me a lot and I’ve got skills to set me for life I love the fact that if I am having a crisis someone is always at the end of the phone to help me get through it. Highly recommend!
As a professional person with a drug and alcohol problem, HCT provided a safe place to come to terms with my difficulties and find a way forward.
Initial contact was with Lorna who saw me within 24 hours and agreed a suitable schedule for therapy. After some time we felt that a group approach might be beneficial to me in addition to 1-2-1 sessions, so I joined the DBT group. Dialectical Behaviour Therapy is a fantastic tool for living a less chaotic life and I benefited immeasurably. The groups are delivered in a friendly, flexible format with a great sense of humour! Lorna and her team have always been hugely flexible when working around my busy job and family commitments. Their policy of allowing 24/7 contact with clients is genuine and on occasion life saving.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Home Counties for anybody seeking some help. They did, and still do, respect my autonomy in the process and have not once put me under pressure to increase or continue seeing them. 5 stars doesn’t quite sum up the help they’ve been over the last year or so. Thanks Lorna, Ashleigh and James!

I cannot thank and recommend Home Counties enough.
I cannot thank and recommend Home Counties enough (especially Nicola, Lorna and Ashleigh) for all their support over the past few years. They are an incredibly caring, kind, patient group of professionals who truly want to help and support you. You can see they have passion for what they do and really try to understand what you’re going through. Nicola has been nothing but kind and understanding, I’m so thankful to have found a therapist who really seems to care. (Having been with adult mental health services for a number of years I haven’t found anyone as compassionate as Nicola has been). Thank you for everythingSarah – Past client
The team are amazing. I feel like I have my life back and I am in a far better place now compared to where I was before I came to Home Counties.
I have been in and out of therapy since I was 13. I was diagnosed with BPD at 25. When my old counsellor was taken ill I decided to try out DBT and enter into 1-2-1 therapy again. I am currently on my fourth year of DBT and it has helped me out a lot.
The therapists here really explain DBT, not sure on something? They’ll always go over things in a different way. You can tell they practise the skills as the way everything is explained and how to apply the skills with examples shows that.
My 1-2-1’s with Lorna has really helped. I am at the stage now where I am noticing a lot of improvements. When I’m triggered, a simple text message or phone call always gets a response. Lorna normally tells me what skills to apply and asks me to check in with her afterwards. Which is very different to what I’ve had previously with other therapists. One thing I can say is they really do care about the people within the group. The skill trainers really know their stuff and you can bring any scenario to them and they can walk through the skills with you. The WhatsApp group allows help on the go from either group members or the skills trainers when you need some input. Something I have found extremely useful and unique to Home Counties.
Over three years of DBT, the BPD diagnosis did not make a lot of sense when diagnosed. Lorna knew that. I showed a lot of similarities with PTSD. I’ve been working with Lorna for over three years and she knows my history. We also ran an autism assessment which I scored highly on and thus diagnosed with ASD.
Seeing the improvement within myself and getting answers has helped massively with my personal life and work life. I feel better in control and now we know what exactly is going on this means we can now work on helping me further and ways to reduce my stress levels.
Something that happened very recently was a job promotion. I’m someone who never asks for anything especially with work. I am quite passive on that regard. Whilst doing interpersonal effectiveness I used the DEARMAN GIVE FAST skill whilst discussing with my boss on changing job roles as I was bored with my current role after doing it for four years. Now this is not an easy set of skills for me but the end result was a job promotion and I have been enjoying my job a lot more.
The team are amazing. I feel like I have my life back and I am in a far better place now compared to where I was before I came to Home Counties. I could not recommend them enough nor thank them for the help they’ve provided for myself.
I highly recommend Home Counties it has helped me out a lot and now I have hope with being able to live my life and have more control over my emotions.
I can’t thank Lorna, Ashleigh, Matthew and the rest of the team for the support and guidance they have given me and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone.
I first came into contact with Home Counties Therapy two years ago and at that point was in a very dark place feeling like I didn’t have options or anywhere to turn to.
I have been seeing them on a 1.2.1 basis and have had group DBT sessions as well.
From the outset Lorna was welcoming, understanding and has helped me to get my life back on track. I’m now back in education, have a great relationship with my family and am feeling the best I ever have, this is all down to HCT guiding me along the way and encouraging me to persevere with change.

I can highly recommend this course and feel that there is something to be gained for everyone.
I have just completed a 6 month course of Dialectical Behavioural Therapy with Home Counties Therapy.
I have a history of eating disorder and substance addiction and this course has been invaluable in providing me with skills that I did not possess before beginning the course. In particular I have found the interpersonal skills training and the distress tolerance tools to be helpful.
The trainers are compassionate and have fantastic knowledge of both the course material & the supporting psychology. They have a great way of helping every member of the group to understand the course material and apply it to our own lives. No one gets left behind.

I was able to feel so much better about myself and can now see a way forward in very positive way.
I contacted Home Counties in crisis. I had stopped drinking for 2 years. I’d just had a relapse and felt guilty, ashamed, worthless and quite frankly… lost.
My first call to the centre was dealt with with extreme kindness. Even after that call I felt better. My first session with Matthew was in all honesty such a relief
He is open, caring, kind, non judgemental and extremely professional. It felt like a really safe place to be.
As time progressed, with Matthew’s expert guidance, I was able to feel so much better about myself and can now see a way forward in very positive way.
Thank you Matthew.

He has made a hugely positive impact on my life.
I first came to see Matthew in July 2022 for help with alcohol addiction. Since then he has guided and supported me through my early stages of recovery. Matthew is both extremely professional and knowledgeable whilst also being personable and caring. He has made a hugely positive impact on my life.Anonymous
I would recommend him and also Home Counties Therapy to anyone!
My husband J has been visiting Matthew for 16 months for his addiction to cocaine!
Prior to him starting with Matthew our marriage was very nearly over and I thought my husband might of ended up dead!
Since starting with Matthew I have noticed many changes. He is also now 9 months sobre and in recovery which is a massive improvement.
Matthew has worked with and listened to J helping him to understand himself better and make positive changes in his life. He’s provided J with a safe and confidential space and listens without judgement! He also suggested that J had ADHD and we now have the diagnosis confirmed by a doctor.
Overall I personally couldn’t thank Matthew enough for all of his efforts to help J and I would recommend him and also Home Counties Therapy to anyone!

I was able to feel so much better about myself and can now see a way forward in very positive way.
Matt was recommended by a close friend and I felt very much that my life was in crisis and that I had reached an impasse.
I’ve had a lot of therapy and psychoanalysis over the years but Matt was completely different. He is extremely perceptive and by the end of the first session I was on a path to explore the possibility of having ADHD. This has subsequently been formerly diagnosed and I’m on a treatment programme. Which has dramatically changed my life.
Matt agreed to a couples session so that I had a safe environment to tell my partner and start looking at how my life can be with the knowledge that I’m neurologically different. Matt has very firm boundaries, a wealth of knowledge in the substance abuse field and very keen radar for spotting denial. His recommendations for books and further treatment have been spot on.
With my ADHD diagnosis many of the issues that permeated my life have dissolved. Matt has effectively talked himself out of a client because currently we really don’t have anything more to cover. And unlike some of my experiences with previous therapists, Matt was positive and encouraging about my decision to stop therapy with no pressure to continue. The work for now has been done.
Finally, I found it very easy to talk to Matt. He is brutally honest about his own background and his path to becoming a therapist. Which helped me to trust him and I have to say that we spent at least half of my sessions laughing in between exploring difficult and painful events from my past.
I have no hesitation in recommending Matt.
